Audio walking tours in Morocco

Morocco's cities were built by one power after another, and many of them were capitals. Volubilis grew at the western edge of Roman rule in North Africa. Marrakech began around 1070 as an Almoravid camp on an empty plain and gave its name to the whole country. Meknes still holds the immense royal city Moulay Ismail drove into the edge of an older medina, and Rabat carries two capital projects eight centuries apart.

The medinas are still lived in. Fez el Bali is a working city folded into a steep river valley. Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 as a fortress and refuge by people driven out of Spain. Essaouira was drawn as a royal port in the 1760s before it was built, and Tangier was for more than a century the one city where the sultan let foreign diplomats live. Casablanca keeps rewriting itself, and its tour ends at the Hassan II Mosque on the Atlantic.

Each tour takes about 85 to 165 minutes over 9 to 11 stops. Stop 1 of every tour is free to hear before you buy.
