Audio walking tours in Egypt

These tours follow old roads through Egypt's cities. In Cairo, al Muizz Street was the high street of a walled Fatimid palace city a thousand years ago, and it still runs about a kilometer from one stone gate to the other; the tour follows it past a sultan's hospital and the bazaar, with a turn to al Azhar.

At Luxor the river divides the story. On the east bank a processional road more than three thousand years old joined Karnak to Luxor Temple before the town grew over it. On the west bank the men who cut and painted the royal tombs lived in a walled village, and so many of them could write that thousands of their own notes survive.

Each tour takes about 95 to 110 minutes over 10 to 11 stops. Stop 1 of every tour is free to hear before you buy.
